New Site Erei tops F.C. Belize in RFG playoffs

Story PictureGood evening I?m James Adderley, so let?s quickly jump into this week?s output of Sports Monday. The semi-final round of the RFG Cup Tournament got off out in the southern district over the weekend. We caught up with New Site Erei hosting F.C. Belize yesterday at Dangriga yesterday.

And indeed the Carl Ramos would have erupted had Ryan Simpson made better use of this Norman Nunez delivery into the danger zone in the opening minutes. But the home fans wouldn?t have to wait long because Kafu Roches and Lloyd Nunez work well together to get this ball to Lennox Castillo, who makes it a 1-zip New Site lead eleven minutes in.

A few minutes later Norman Nunez finds Deon Frazier with this nice service, but the right foot fails the Erei striker.

It?s another Nunez-provided scoring chance for Deon Frazier, but it?s the header that lets him down this time. Just in case you forgot, three strikes doesn?t mean you?re out in football, as Frazier fails again.

Hey F.C. Belize, we need a highlight and they hear us, because Rudolph Flowers fires this set piece that forces Woodrow West to fly and maybe Jeromy Jones could have done better with his half a chance.

Nevertheless, we?re into the closing minutes of the first half when Deon Frazier centres in front of the goal and Jeromy Jones in an effort at good defence comes up with this dreaded auto-goal as New Site Erei takes a 2-zip lead into the half time.

Of course, Dangriga wouldn?t be Dangriga without roots and culture, so at intermission Baggasu and friend?s takes centre stage, Charikanari style.

But back to the main event and Nunez?s attempt to make it 3-zip in early second half, but F.C. Belize displays good defence this time.

In the meantime, this turn around shot by Deon Frazier does not achieve the required results, but it nevertheless remains a thing of beauty.

Fact is people, New Site Erei remains in control and indeed Lennox Castillo certainly would want to pull this one back.

At the other end, Daniel Thomas whips up this miracle splice, but West comes out with flying colours.

And here comes F.C. Belize?s best scoring chance. Fresh off the bench Clifford Usher fires this bomb?Rudolph Flowers then gets his turn off the rebound, Usher gets it back… but for Dangriga the danger dissipates.

New Site Erei replies with this potent attack that gives Lennox Castillo a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. And guess what, he applies for a pilot license.

Usually in this area it?s your first touch that fails you, but in Frazier?s case it is his second touch that is the culprit on this press.

Folks, the city fans will just have to accept the fact that F.C. Belize was outplayed and overpowered by the host team, New Site Erei who went on to post the 2-zip big W.

This brings this two-game series to the M.C.C. Grounds on Sunday, the fifteenth, at four p.m. where F.C. Belize must win by three goals or face elimination.

In the other semi played on Saturday at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, BOCA F.C. burned the San Pedro Seahawks 1-zip and now the scene shifts to the island where this Sunday the other finalist will emerge.

In other news, the Belize National Triathlon Association has rescheduled the Relay Sprint Triathlon, which was set for January fifteenth. It?s now set for January twenty-second.

Hey folks, that?s our show for today. We invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
