Albert Castro still critical at K.H.M.H.

Albert Castro

Thirty-one year old taxi driver, Albert Castro remains hospitalized in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a shooting in the wee hours of Monday. As we reported, Castro was shot on Fabers Road as he approached its junction with Watermelon Street. At least one shooter rode up to his taxi and fired several shots at him which found their mark on his head. A female friend who was inside the vehicle with Castro at the time of the shooting escaped unscathed, but police continue to investigate the motive of the attempt made on Castro’s life. In the wake of his shooting, word spread that Castro had succumbed to his injuries, but today, his cousin confirmed that in fact, news of his death is premature and that he is very much alive. Leon Petillo says that contrary to reports from the police, Castro was shot six times to the head and so far he has had surgery to remove three of the six slugs that were lodged in his head. Petillo says the family believes that he was targeted because of jealousy.

Leon Petillo, Relative of Shooting Victim

“That’s a lie…he is in a critical condition at the moment. The news said that he dead, but he noh dead. They said that he got shot though. When we got to the hospital, it was different from what the news said. He got six shots in the head; the doctor only could have taken out three and left three noh.”

Duane Moody

“So it is not two shots to the head; it is six?”

Leon Petillo

Leon Petillo

“No it is not two, it is six.”

Duane Moody

“Have you been able to find out from police what could have led to him being shot so many times?”

Leon Petillo

“Well, at this time…too many stories and with the police, nothing at all. We keep on asking them questions but no leads to nothing so.”

Duane Moody

“But why would anybody want to see your cousin dead?”

Leon Petillo

“Well to be honest, he is not a good person and I won’t say…you know, everybody knows Albert and he was trying to change his life, but Belize noh.”

Duane Moody

“So gang?”

Leon Petillo

“Well you wouldn’t say it is gang, but at this time it is a jealousy thing with the girl that was in the vehicle.”
